The Answer is A protected membrane roof (PMR) is a type of roofing system where the waterproofing membrane is installed on top of the insulation, rather than directly on the roof deck. This design helps to protect the membrane from damage and weathering, extending its lifespan.

In a PMR system, the insulation is typically placed on top of the roof deck, and then a layer of protection board is installed over the insulation. The waterproofing membrane is then placed on top of the protection board, creating a barrier against water and other environmental elements. This membrane can be made of various materials, such as rubber, PVC, or modified bitumen.

To further protect the membrane, a layer of ballast or pavers is often added on top of it. This not only provides additional protection from UV rays and physical damage, but also helps to weigh down the membrane and prevent it from being lifted by wind uplift.
