Neurotransmitter
Chemical messengers released from neurons to transmit signals across synapses to other neurons or cells.
Receptor Sites
Specific locations on the surface of a cell or within a cell where hormones, neurotransmitters, or drugs can bind to create a change in the cell.
Postsynaptic Neuron
The neuron that receives a signal (neurotransmitter) across the synaptic gap from a presynaptic neuron.
Presynaptic Neuron
A neuron that releases neurotransmitters from its axon terminal into the synaptic cleft to transmit a signal to the receiving (postsynaptic) neuron.
