Two-time Super Bowl winner Dave Duerson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the stomach in February 2011. He shot himself in the stomach because he wanted to leave his brain to science. He blamed his post-football troubles, including memory loss, troubles spelling words, depression, and moodiness, on the repeated concussions he suffered while on the playing field.
