The study of meaning.

Phoneme

The smallest unit of sound that makes a meaningful difference between utterances in a given language.

Linguistic Competence

Underlying knowledge that allows a cognitive processor to engage in a particular cognitive activity involving language independent of behavior expressing that knowledge. Contrast with linguistic performance.

Underlying Knowledge

The fundamental understanding or skills that support more advanced learning or reasoning.
