Every now and then, if both starting goalies are injured or otherwise unable to play, an NHL team requires an emergency backup goalie. These goalies are usually not professionals and the rare opportunity to play in a real NHL game could be terrifying, exciting, or a mixture of both. Sometimes they even win (just ask David Ayres, who defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in that very situation!) . Assuming they are enjoying themselves, what might we see if we could actually look inside the brain of an emergency goalie during the game?
