The Answer is The Treaty of Karlowitz, also known as the Peace of Karlowitz, was a significant peace treaty that was signed on January 26, 1699, in Sremski Karlovci (Karlowitz in German), a town in the modern-day Serbian province of Vojvodina. This treaty marked the end of the hostilities between the Ottoman Empire and the Holy League, which consisted of the Habsburg Monarchy, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Republic of Venice, and Russia.

The Treaty of Karlowitz was a result of the Ottoman Empire's defeat in the Battle of Zenta in 1697 and was negotiated through the mediation of the British and Dutch envoys. It is considered a turning point in European and Ottoman history as it signaled the end of Ottoman territorial expansion into Europe and the beginning of the empire's long-term decline. The treaty was also one of the first to be negotiated in a diplomatic congress.

Under the terms of the treaty, the Ottoman Empire ceded significant territories in Central Europe. The Habsburgs gained control of Hungary (with the exception of the Banat of Temesvar), Transylvania, and Croatia, while Poland received Podolia, and Venice acquired the Peloponnese and parts of Dalmatia. Russia was confirmed in its possession of the city of Azov, which it had captured from the Ottomans.

The Treaty of Karlowitz is often cited as the beginning of the modern system of international relations in Eastern Europe and as a precursor to the balance of power principle that would dominate European politics in the centuries to follow.
