The MSCEIT is a test used to measure people's emotional intelligence. In the test, many questions ask how people would interpret emotional stimuli (such as morphed facial expressions of emotion), or how they would respond to emotionally complicated situations. Your textbook describes three approaches to scoring people's answers - deciding what the "right" answer is. Describe each of the three scoring approaches, and for each, state one limitation of that approach.
Top-down Approach
A problem-solving strategy that starts with the big picture before breaking it down into smaller, more manageable parts.
Schema-inconsistent
Pertains to information or events that do not fit within existing cognitive frameworks or expectations.
Highly Salient
Something that stands out conspicuously or is most noticeable in a particular context.
Primacy Effect
The inclination to recall information more effectively when it's introduced initially than when it comes later.
