Community Psychology
An area of psychology that focuses on understanding individuals within their social, cultural, economic, geographical, and political contexts, and on promoting community well-being.
Ecological Perspective
A perspective on health promotion that considers nested levels of analysis, viewing mental health problems in the context of characteristics of the individual (for example, coping skills, personality traits); the microsystem (that is, the family and social network); the exo-system, which mediates between the individual, the family, and the larger society (for example, work settings, schools, religious settings, neighbourhoods); and the macrosystem (for example, social norms, social class).
