Cognitive dissonance has important ramifications for our behavior. It can motivate us to change a behavior that is not congruent with our beliefs, ethics or morals. However, there are several ways we can get rid of the discomfort of cognitive dissonance and not change our behavior. Discuss these and illustrate how they might be used by someone who drinks too much, knows it is dangerous and unhealthy, but does not want to quit.
