The Answer is The colonial world can be divided into two types.The first type of colony were those where European settlers could easily live,without fear of death due to tropical diseases.In these colonies,European settlers settled,and as a result they set up institutions to ensure governance,such as the rule of law.The establishment of these social,political,and economic institutions encouraged economic growth.The second type of colony faced greater challenges to settlement.In these colonies,European settlers had trouble surviving as a result of disease or other factors.As a result,European settlers set up extractive institutions,designed to transfer resources to their mother country.These institutions had detrimental effects on economic growth.Evidence supports this argument as settler mortality rates are strongly correlated with the level of development of former colonies today.That is,those colonies with high settler mortality rates have lower levels of development today.
