Your grade in organizational behavior is composed of 30 percent teamwork.Your professor grades all teams' assignments and gives all team members the same grade.The semester is half over and you find that you are doing more than your share of the work and your team's project grades have averaged 90 percent,75 percent,83 percent,and 60 percent.You just received the last assignment grade of 60 percent and are wondering what you can do to improve the team's performance.
The five members of your team were randomly selected.You had never met three of these people and had limited interaction with the fourth,a woman named Tracy.Two of the most outspoken members of the team are male and belong to the same fraternity.You and Tracy believe that these two are not doing their share of the work.They also have limited experience with topics in OB because they have no work experience and are accounting majors.You have not discussed workload issues with them.
The fifth member of your team,Zhauli,has good experience when it comes to OB issues as he previously worked in human resources for several years.Just the same,he is from China and lacks confidence expressing his opinions in English.His lack of speaking up is reinforced by the fact he is introverted.
Your team has not created a charter and it constantly argues over who is going to run meetings and make project assignments.No one is accepted as the team leader.You find that you and Tracy are in conflict with the two fraternity brothers.You spoke with your professor about this and she told you to try working it out as team.She prefers that the team find a solution on its own.
You just learned that the two fraternity brothers also went to see the professor and blamed you and Tracy for the team's poor performance.They asked the professor whether they could be graded separately from the other team members.The syllabus does not accommodate such a request.These two team members do not know that you are aware of what they did.
