-A period of unusually cool temperatures that spanned much of the early modern period, most prominently in the Northern Hemisphere. The impact of the cooler climate reached its peak in many regions in the mid-seventeenth century, helping to spark a period of record or near-record cold winters in much of China, Europe, and North America.
