Definitions:

A concentration gradient is a variation in the concentration of a substance across a region, leading to the movement of particles from high to low concentration areas.

Hypotonic Solution

Solution that contains a lower solute (more water) concentration than the cytoplasm of a cell; causes cell to gain water by osmosis.

Cell Wall

A rigid layer that lies outside the plasma membrane of the cells of plants, fungi, and bacteria, providing structural support and protection.
