The Answer is Suppose a person tries to live a moral life, but believes that she cannot do so without the help of God. If she continually fails, slips up, behaves immorally on occasions, it may be that she believes that God is not helping her. Perhaps she comes to doubt God's existence. Because morality and God have been associated in her mind for so long, when this happens, it may be likely that she rejects morality with the rejection of God. From here it is easy to be skeptical about morality, cynical. It is easy to see morality as stemming from religion rather than simply part of the very definition of human social interaction. This is problematic for the behavior of the person after the rejection of God.
One may think that this is not a problem, for God will eventually bring everyone into his fold. With time and faith, everyone will be a believer, and as such, everyone will receive god's grace and will come to be moral. By focusing on God's love for us, and on His commandments, we can, and everyone can, be moral.
