Researchers are studying how the membrane potential of a postsynaptic neuron changes in response to neurotransmitter stimulation. Baseline measurements determine that the resting membrane potential is generated by high membrane permeability for a particular ion. When neurotransmitter stimulation begins, ligand-gated ion channels open (black arrow) and increase the membrane permeability for a different ion, causing a change in membrane potential. This triggers the delayed opening of voltage-gated ion channels (red arrow) , which increase the membrane permeability for a third type of ion. The results of the experiment are shown in the graph below. The equilibrium potentials of different ions under physiologic conditions are as follows:
Which of the following options would best explain the changes in this neuron's membrane potential during the experiment?
Moral Development
The process through which individuals develop proper attitudes and behaviors toward other people in society, based on social and cultural norms, rules, and laws.
Generosity
The quality of being willing to give money, help, time, etc., to others, often beyond what is expected or required.
School Bullies
Refers to individuals, typically in educational settings, who harass or intimidate others, often through physical, verbal, or social means.
