Read the case scenario, and then respond to the questions that follow it. Responses should be one to two paragraphs in length.
Case scenario: You are working in a mid-sized hospital and your hospital reviewed their patient satisfaction scores for meeting milestones of ordering and checking on health screening tests such as diabetic screenings, colonoscopies, prostate testing, and others. The scores were in the middle percentile.
Respond to the following questions with critical thinking and support:
1. What type of nursing informatics (NI) specialist could best address the scenario, and why?
2. What issues might the NI specialist address to improve outcomes of the screening tests, and why?
3. What IT methods could be used to improve patient outcomes in your hospital, and why (in broad terms)?
Tips: Apply what you have learned about nursing informatics, as well as information technology, to support your answers. Use the definitions of each NI specialist role as support for your answers.
