The impulse and the guidance come from God's Holy Spirit, who "carries along" the prophet throughout the process. The Spirit gives the impulse and superintends the process so that what the prophet records is precisely what God wanted said in the way He wanted it said. Prophecy is not a matter of one's own interpretation, because it derives from God and is objective truth and not subjective opinion. Because genuine prophecy derives from God, we can expect that it will be in full accord with what God has revealed of his nature, character, and will through other means. The genuineness of any putative prophecy can be verified or discounted by assessing whether it complements, completes, or compounds what God has previously revealed.
