Linguistic Categories
The classification of words and expressions in languages into specified groups based on their meanings, functions, or syntactic properties.
Prelinguistic Communication
Early forms of communication exhibited by infants before they develop the ability to use language.
Cognition
The knowledge, beliefs, thoughts and ideas that people have about themselves and their environment. May also refer to mental processes through which knowledge is acquired, including perception, memory and thinking.
Illocution
The intended significance behind an utterance, such as commanding, questioning, or declaring, which conveys the speaker's intention.
