Definitions:

Extracellular Matrix

A complex network of proteins and carbohydrates surrounding cells, providing structural and biochemical support to the surrounding cells.

Osteoblasts

Cells responsible for new bone formation, essential for growth and bone repair.

Chondrocytes

Specialized cells found within cartilage that are responsible for maintaining the cartilaginous matrix, essential for the growth and repair of cartilage tissue.

Diffusion

The net movement of particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) from a region of higher concentration of that type of particle to a region of lower concentration (i.e., down a concentration gradient), resulting from random motion; also called simple diffusion. Compare with facilitated diffusion and active transport.
