The Answer is The Treaty of Ghent was a peace agreement that ended the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. Signed on December 24, 1814, in Ghent, which is now in modern-day Belgium, the treaty essentially restored relations between the two nations to status quo ante bellum, meaning that territories captured during the war were returned to their pre-war owners and no significant territorial changes took place.

The War of 1812 had been fought over several issues, including trade restrictions brought about by Britain's ongoing war with France, the impressment of American sailors into the British Royal Navy, British support of American Indian tribes against American expansion, and other maritime conflicts.

Negotiations for peace began in early 1814, and the treaty was ratified by the British on December 27, 1814, and by the United States on February 17, 1815, after news of the treaty had slowly traveled across the Atlantic. The Treaty of Ghent did not address all of the issues that had caused the war, such as the matter of impressment, but it did open the door for future friendly relations and trade between the United States and Great Britain. The end of the war also allowed the United States to focus on its westward expansion and internal development.
